Three miles from Stonehenge in Bulford, Wiltshire, archaeologists just announced the discovery of a 5,000-year-old site that appears to be the earliest known prototype for Stonehenge's solar alignment — built 500 years before the famous stones were raised. Two massive wooden poles set 120 meters apart, precisely aligned to the rising sun at the summer solstice and the setting sun at winter solstice, accurate to within one degree. A rare disc-shaped flint knife was deliberately placed in one of the pits as what researchers believe was a symbolic reference to the sun. The announcement came three days before the 2026 summer solstice. One of the post pits is now under someone's living room. The lead archaeologist called it the greatest find of his career.
