But the American hellhound, the spectral devil dogs people have been reporting across the Midwest for over a century, has almost no dedicated research behind it. Nobody has written the book. Chad's colleague Kevin Lee Nelson is finishing one now, and Chad thinks it's overdue. The Midwest is a hotbed of these sightings. Enormous dark dogs. Sometimes glowing eyes. Sometimes vanishing mid-encounter. And almost entirely absent from the mainstream conversation about cryptids.
